CHEAT SHEET: 3 Tips to Get the Best out of Your Moisturizer

Posted by Otis Skincare on

Some parts of your daily routine, like moisturising your face or brushing your teeth, seem so instinctive you probably don’t give them a second thought.

But the right technique can make all the difference.

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on how to correctly apply your moisturizer, and keep your skin healthy, happy and hydrated.

Hydrating your skin with a good quality face moisturizer is one of the most important steps in your daily skincare routine. It keeps your skin healthy and functioning properly. It also prevents signs of aging appearing, and keeps you looking your best.

And whist it might seem intuitive, it’s worth checking that you’re applying it in the right way.

Let’s start with…

Three essential tips

Here are the 3 most important things to remember so that your moisturizer will work that much harder for you.

  1. First things first, always start with clean hands and a clean face.
  2. When applying moisturizer always massage upwards and outwards, work against gravity here. Use gentle circular motions and don’t rub too hard.
  3. Gently pat moisturizer around your eyes with your ring finger. The skin here is very delicate and your ring finger is the most gentle and will apply the least pressure.

Each face cream is different in terms of consistency, so the best application method can differ slightly.

Our Hydrating Daily Moisturiser is a super lightweight moisturizer so application is easy. It absorbs quickly without you having to rub too hard or pull on your skin - and dries to a matt finish, so your face won’t look shiny.

ACTION PLAN: Step by step guide to applying your face moisturizer

    Step 1:

After washing, or shaving your face, apply one pump of HYDRATING DAILY MOISTURIZER to your fingertips. (not to your palm otherwise the moisturizer is just wasted on your hands)

    Step 2

Rub lightly between your clean fingertips. Then gently dab the moisturizer onto the different areas of your face - your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin.
This makes sure that the product is distributed evenly all over your face.

    Step 3

Sweep the moisturizer over your face always moving in an upward and outward movement fighting against gravity.
Make sure that you are always lifting the skin—and never pulling it down.

    Step 4:

Next, apply a second pump of HYDRATING DAILY MOISTURIZER to your fingertips and gently apply to the eye and neck area.
For your eye area, pat gently with your ring finger.

    Step 5:

Then use smooth upward strokes on your neck.

    A note about eye creams

Our Hydrating Daily Moisturizer is light enough to be applied to the delicate skin around your eyes and because it absorbs easily, without excessive rubbing, you won’t pull on the skin.

So there’s no need to use a separate eye cream.

Should a man moisturize at night or in the morning?

Once in the morning, after washing or shaving, to hydrate and protect your skin during the day. And then again in the evening before bed.

Your skin cells are regenerating while you sleep so you should give them everything they need.

Using a moisturizer before you go to bed will maximise cell renewal, repair daily damage and also deliver hydration in one go.

Are you supposed to rub in moisturizer?

No, just gently pat. There is no need to rub too hard or work the moisturizer in too vigorously. It will absorb into your skin on its own, helped by the warmth of your skin.

    Should men moisturize every day?

Yes. Moisturizing your face every day keeps your skin healthy, hydrated and functioning properly - as well as preventing signs of aging.

Whatever your age and whatever your skin type, every man can benefit from using a daily moisturizer — even if you have oily or acne-prone skin.

All you need to stay looking handsome.
